Canada's National DoNotCall Registry is now active and we
encourage you to register today by clicking
here. The donotcall
registry will reduce calls of annoyance, however it will not eliminate all
calls as legislation (Bill C-37) has exemptions allowing several groups to
call you.
The following list are those who are exempt from the
National DoNotCall Registry and are NOT required to use it:
-
Charities and Not For Profit Organizations
-
Print Media (Newspapers)
-
Political Parties/Groups (Federal, Provincial
and Municipal)
-
Survey and Research Groups (These groups are not trying
to sell you anything)
-
Businesses that you have an existing relationship with
(i.e. your bank or insurance provider)
Other important rules of Bill C-37
-
All organizations who use the phone to solicit, market
or sell products and services must maintain an in-house donotcall list
that is specific to that organization. If you request to be put on
their internal do not call list then they must ensure that you are not
called again. (As you already know a simple polite request just
doesn't seem to work! and this is why our free 3rd Party Documentation
Service has been created for you.)
-
Survey and Research Groups not only are exempted from
using the Registry but they do not have to maintain an in-house
donotcall list. However this group should recognize the "Privacy
Act" and if they know what's good for them they will maintain an in house
do not call list.
-
Phone solicitation from businesses to businesses is
still allowed.
More About our Directory
Our "Directory of Exempted Telemarketers and Solicitors" has
been created to help you easily find those who are exempted from the
National DoNotCall Registry. Our directory is not a complete list of
exempted organization and you are encourage to add known Telemarketers and
or Solicitors to the directory. Each submission you make will help the
next Canadian find them easily. Once you register with us you will be
allowed to add as many Telemarketers as you wish and your login will display
how many Canadians found that telemarketers listing because of your personal
efforts. You will also enjoy being able to monitor all customer
comments, feedback and customer ratings posted to that listing from within
your personal login. More About our
3rd Party Documentation Service
Companies and organizations for profit and not for profit
have been required to maintain in-house donotcall lists prior to Bill C-37
passing into law, however the general public has stated that the simple
request to be removed from individual call lists has been ineffective.
www.donotcall.ca will now provide
3rd party documentation for these individual requests. This
valuable service is free of charge to all registered donotcall.ca members.
Now for the very first time in Canadian history accountability is present
for all telemarketers, solicitors and survey groups regardless if they're
exempt from the National Donotcall Registry.
To take full advantage of this free service simply CC
(carbon copy) all your donotcall communications and request to
documented@donotcall.ca
In the "subject field" you must enter "donotcall list" Every
request you send to telemarketers and every complaint/concern or noted
violation sent to the CRTC should be CC to us. We will date stamp
every email and archive it for future use if needed. If your request
is submitted by phone and not email we suggest that you tell the
telemarketer that your conversation and request will be
documented@donotcall.ca
Once your off the phone send us an email stating your conversation and it
will be time stamped and archived for you. |
